Why You Should Hire An Interior Designer.
Decorating your home for the first time can be so exciting! I still remember buying for my first apartment when I married my husband back in 2001. I was so excited to see what was in store for us, I couldn’t wait! My husband and I were just newlyweds and had applied for military housing for when he returned back from deployment, we’d have a place to stay while stationed here in the city of San Diego, CA. My husband, now on his way back home then gave me the green light to go ahead and start looking for what I wanted. Not thinking about it twice, I rushed to the stores along with some close family members of mine for support, to buy the big ticket items for our new place.
Looking back now, I realized I should have waited. I didn’t realize my options were so limited in the city we were previously living in. I only had three large furniture chainstores to shop from. Custom pieces were out of the question; budget wise and timeframe was not on my side. Not loving many of the sofas that I had seen and were readily available, I chose to purchase one of my cousins set she owned since she knew how much I loved them. They were beautiful to look at and of such great quality; I would always admire them. They were of a light cream colored upholstery with an english styled arm, and the seats were in a one cushion style for both sofa & loveseat. They were just beautiful I tell you! I couldn’t find anything in store that could top them, so I happily accepted and purchased them.
After about a week of shopping, I couldn’t believe that I had purchased most of the main furnishings we needed for our one bedroom apartment. However, I came to the realization that I had made a huge mistake by doing so. There was just so many things I didn’t consider going into it. So many factors come into play when furnishing a new place. When I tell you that the scale of most of my new furniture pieces were too large for my small apartment…it was no joke! They were too big and/or bulky and definitely not cutting it for my new space! However, we had to manage and make it work for the next five years. It was a rookie mistake of mine! I had bought beautiful pieces, yet they just didn’t work so great for the small space were settling in. So never again!
So since I had experienced that mistake in my home shopping journey, I grew passionate about the art of beautifully designed interiors. I’ve always loved to study interiors for its potential. In all honesty, I just wanted to learn how to make my home beautiful! However, I had to learn the hard way, through trial and error what worked best and what did not. Before I knew it, I wanted to become an Interior Designer! It was just a no brainer for me. I fell in love with the challenges faced with Interior Design, and now that I am an Interior Designer, I can confidently say I have mastered the craft. Just having the knowledge of the principles and elements of design can really make the difference. Skills that help designers carefully plan out a design layout that works, yet looks absolutely beautiful but can be functional as well. That is what I now do when I meet with potential clients and tour their homes on a consulting basis. Sometimes, all they really need is some design advice that they can take on their own and go from there.
That is why I tell you now how much I believe it is of much importance to hire a professional in these stages of furnishing a new space. Whether you’re moving, or purchasing a new home. This is when a professional can be of so much value! They give you the best first hand advice. Before going and investing money into any home furnishings and other home accessories, consulting with an Interior Designer is the best thing you can do for yourself. It saves you time and money, and helps you avoid the potential of costly mistakes.
I also think it’s important for people to understand that there are Interior Design professionals out there that really want to help and solve your design challenges. It doesn’t always have to require clients to have a whole house renovation to get the advice you need; you just need to find and seek the designer that is right for you and will want to work with you on a consulting basis. From there, you can determine whether or not you want to work with them on a future project of your home that you may have on mind.
The point that I am trying to make here for you to grasp is to reach out to your local designers. See who you really vibe with! You just never know when you will need that expert opinion for your next design project. Yes, it can be an investment at times but the result at the end is so worthwhile. When push comes to shove, the amount of design decisions you have to make in a short time span, and not knowing what direction to go with can be so overwhelming. An Interior Designer will always have your back! With their trained eye and experience, they will tackle any design challenges that may arise.
